The Christingle service was able to go ahead at short notice this year, although run slightly differently to keep everyone safe. We had an amazing 134 children and their families take part in this lovely candle lit service which was a great success. Equally the midnight service was well attended and it was nice to see some new and younger faces!
Going forward we have now received our five yearly architects report on the condition of the Church and although we are well aware of the roof which is in urgent need of replacing, other repairs were identified which need to be carried out soon. There are also some maintenance issues which are not too onerous and can easily be undertaken on a volunteer basis – such as removal of ivy from the walls and painting ironwork.
We hope to get a band of volunteers to help with this so if you can spare a couple of hours to help, please contact the Churchwarden Mike Naylor 01453 828682. Home-made cakes and coffee/tea will be on hand!
From Rector Steve January 2022
It’s amazing how quickly things we have built anticipation for disappear in the rear-view mirror of our lives. When I think of the long planning towards Christmas, all the fun of meals and family and events, and here we are looking towards Easter. Before we move on from Christmas, thank you to all those who helped with and supported the Christmas events and services at St Michaels around Christmas. It was amazing to celebrate with you and welcome you to those events.
We are busy planning towards Lent and Easter. One of the valuable facets of the life of the church is the rhythm of the calendar we follow, and it’s interesting how so many life events which are common to all of us are recognized and honoured in the church year. We are looking forward to lots of weddings and baptisms, and its always an honour to accompany families through the difficult times of mourning and funerals.
The year ahead will bring many twists and turns and through all those we wish you a blessed and successful 2022.
Please keep an eye on the Eastington or St Michaels Facebook pages for detailed updates on Lent events and Easter services.
The second and fourth Sundays of the month at 11:15 we gather for worship.
Revs Steve Harrison and Dave Bishop
Do you like to sing?
St.Michael and All Angels Church is hoping to re-establish a small choir to help boost the singing of hymns and psalms at (mostly) Sunday services which are held on the 2nd and 4th Sunday in the month.
We will also need a choir leader/pianist/organist.
This group will consist of sociable, community minded people, who will enjoy singing beautiful and challenging music to edify the congregation, and lift the ambience of the Church, oh yes, and who can sing a bit !
