In April, Jennifer Empson approached me and asked about the possibility of doing home deliveries for vulnerable people that had to shield due to the pandemic. She told me that she had a group of volunteers that were willing to collect the shopping and deliver them for us.
I approached my Line Manager and it was agreed we could start a process of doing home deliveries – the Midcounties Ethos is to help serve the community and is community led.
I placed an advert on Love Eastington to let the community know that we would be starting home deliveries. The customer would ring the store and place an order , we would do the shopping, receive a payment over the phone and then the volunteers would collect and deliver on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. At the peak of the pandemic we were doing between 20-30 home deliveries a week.
We have noticed that it is winding down now as the restrictions are being lifted and we are currently doing up to 10 a week. We are able to deliver most of these ourselves, but we can still call upon the Eastington Volunteers to deliver as needed.
We are very grateful to Jennifer and her team as without them this would not have been possible. The store has been very busy and the colleagues of Eastington Co-op would not have been able to carry out all the deliveries at the peak of the crisis.

Altogether, Midcounties Co-op have reached a total of 50000 home deliveries , which is absolutely amazing and has been a great success.
Call and Collect
We now also offer a Call and Collect service for everyone who may wish to find a new “normal” whilst still minimising the risk to themselves and their family.
Customers can ring 0800 435902 Monday-Saturday between 8.30-5.00pm to place an order- or can email the shopping list to member.communications@midcounties.coop.
This will be ‘picked’ for you to collect when ready.
