Harvest Festival and Stroud Foodbank Collection
Harvest is a really special season where we celebrate all that we have been given. We have decided this year to make a food collection to the local foodbank in Stroud to help those in need through the coming winter when demand is its highest. Items which the Stroud Foodbank are in need of at the moment include the following:
Small bags of sugar
Tinned soup
Tinned vegetables
Tinned tomatoes
Tinned meat meals
Jam
Chocolate spread
Marmite
Washing up liquid
Soap powder
Baby wipes
Toothpaste
Toothbrush
If you are able to donate any of the above, please bring them to our Harvest Festival on Sunday 6th October at 11.15am so that we can help those in our local community who are in need of a vital lifeline.
All Souls Service and Remembrance Sunday
We come to the time of year when we remember with thanksgiving those whom we have known who are no longer with us, as well as confront issues of war and peace.
On Sunday 3rd November 2019 at 6pm, we will be holding our annual All Souls Service for the Departed at Eastington Church, during which we read out the names of those who have died during the past couple of years and the names of others who are requested to be included. We light candles and place them on the altar as a mark of thanksgiving and remembrance during the service. We will also be serving refreshments after the service. Everyone is welcome to come along and share in the service and make their own thanksgiving.
On Sunday 10th November 2019 at 10.45am, we will be holding our Remembrance Sunday Service at Eastington Church, during which we remember with thanksgiving those lives, especially those from our village, who have been taken away through war and conflict. There will be a 2 minute silence during the service and the laying of a wreath at the village’s war memorial in the churchyard.
Eastington Christmas Tree Festival: 6th to 8th December 2019
We are delighted to welcome you all to participate in our spectacular Christmas Tree Festival, our 3rd Festival in 5 years. As in previous years, we are looking to fill the church with beautiful Christmas Trees, individually and creatively decorated by families, businesses and organisations in and around the local area. As part of the Festival, there will be a competition for the best Christmas Trees, as voted for by those visiting the Festival, with prizes awarded to the winners.
The Festival is being run to raise essential funds to assist with ongoing maintenance to the village’s 600 year old historic church building, as well as ensuring pastoral care and support is available for those in need, together with enhancing the church for the local community.
We would be thrilled if you would be able to provide and decorate a Christmas Tree, which can be of any style, of any height up to a maximum of 2 metres, real or artificial, with any style of Christmas lights, although please no lighted candles. You can equally decorate your tree in any way you wish, i.e. something which represents your family or promotes your business or organisation.
If you are able to take part and ensure this year’s event is even more popular than previous years, please complete and return the entry form.
