The Autumn work on the square has been done; those who need all year cricket are playing evening indoor games and the rest are dreaming of newly mown grass, cricket bat oil and sunshine!
2017 brought successes and improvements on and off the pitch. Winning the last 9 games took us to runners up position in division 1 of the Stroud League resulting in promotion and a new challenge for 2018. We won 13 and lost 4 league matches. Will Beese won the league batting (ave. 79.91, two hundreds, best 130 not out) and all-rounder awards.
The AGM was held in October where Neil Campbell was elected to the committee, joining the present officers who were re-elected.
The club held an end of season dinner at The Whitminster Hotel where appreciations were made of Will’s batting and bowling, dad Roger’s captaincy and batting (ave.44.3); Freddie Burridge’s batting and bowling (ave. 28.2/19.3); Simon Wright’s bowling (ave.13.6) and Keith Dench’s 50 years as a player for E.C.C.
Despite the successful performances we still need more players, especially those who would like to play every game. However, occasional players are also welcome, so let us know if you are interested and when you are available.
Nets will take place at Maidenhill School on 8th, 15th, and 22nd April, 11am to 12.00.
